The Blair Witch Project with Dylan Clark

Lionsgate is returning to one of horror’s most influential franchises with a new reimagining of The Blair Witch Project, tapping rising genre filmmaker Dylan Clark to direct. The project brings together powerhouse horror producers from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, signaling a major revival effort for the iconic found-footage property.

Originally released in 1999, The Blair Witch Project became a cultural phenomenon and box office breakout, grossing $248 million worldwide and redefining independent horror filmmaking.

A New Vision with Deep Roots in Horror

Dylan Clark, an emerging voice in horror with a strong following in the YouTube space, will both direct and rewrite the film from an original screenplay by Chris Devlin. Clark’s recent work has quickly positioned him as a filmmaker to watch, including his upcoming adaptation of Portrait of God with Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele producing.

His involvement suggests a fresh, modern take on the Blair Witch mythology, potentially blending digital-era storytelling with the franchise’s signature realism.

Original Creators and Cast Return as Executive Producers

In a move that reinforces the project’s connection to its origins, key figures from the original film are returning as executive producers. This includes original cast members Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, along with filmmakers Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale.

Their involvement ensures that the reboot maintains a direct creative link to the original film’s mythology while introducing the story to a new generation.

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster Lead Production

The film is being produced by horror heavyweights Jason Blum and James Wan, whose Blumhouse and Atomic Monster banners have become synonymous with modern horror success. They are joined by producer Roy Lee, with additional production support from Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.

Executive producers also include Steven Schneider, Michael Clear, and Judson Scott, with Lionsgate overseeing the project through Scott O’Brien and Pavan Kalidindi.

The collaboration brings together some of the most consistent hitmakers in the genre, creating high expectations for the project’s execution and reception.

Revisiting a Horror Landmark

Few films have had the impact of The Blair Witch Project, which pioneered the found-footage style and reshaped how horror films could be marketed and experienced. Its raw presentation and viral-style promotion helped define a new era of immersive storytelling.

Lionsgate has continued to expand the franchise in recent years, including experiential attractions like Escape Blair Witch in Las Vegas, showing that audience interest in the brand remains strong.

What This Means for the Franchise

Bringing in a new-generation filmmaker like Dylan Clark while involving the original creators signals a careful balance between reinvention and preservation. With Blumhouse and Atomic Monster backing the project, the film is positioned to lean into modern horror sensibilities while honoring what made the original so effective.

As horror continues to thrive at the box office, Blair Witch has the opportunity to reestablish itself as a defining voice in the genre once again.
