Director Juan Pablo Arias Muñoz’s modern western thriller Casa Grande is officially making its digital debut this June, bringing a tense story of family, sacrifice, survival, and buried secrets home for audiences for the very first time.
The emotionally charged thriller arrives on participating digital platforms beginning June 2, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and additional premium digital retailers.
Directed by Juan Pablo Arias Muñoz (The Curse of the Necklace), Casa Grande blends western storytelling with modern economic tensions, positioning family legacy and land ownership at the center of an increasingly dangerous conflict tied to California lithium mining.
The film stars Madison Lawlor (The Conjuring: Last Rights) as Hassie Clarkman, a young woman forced to return home to her family’s struggling California ranch while carrying a dangerous secret from her past. Upon returning to Casa Grande, Hassie finds herself caught between her fractured family relationships and a growing battle over the future of the ranch itself.
Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Courage Under Fire) co-stars as Roy Reyes, a ruthless neighboring landowner determined to seize the Clarkman property for its valuable lithium deposits no matter the cost.
As tensions escalate between the Clarkman and Reyes families, long-buried secrets, violence, sabotage, and betrayal begin threatening everyone connected to the ranch.
According to the official synopsis:
“A prodigal daughter returns to her family’s dying California ranch as her father battles terminal illness and mounting pressure from a ruthless neighboring landowner determined to mine the property for lithium.”
Beyond its western thriller framework, Casa Grande also taps into larger contemporary conversations surrounding land, generational legacy, environmental exploitation, and economic desperation. Rather than focusing strictly on traditional western imagery, the film modernizes the genre through corporate greed, resource battles, and fractured family dynamics rooted in survival.
The cast also includes John Pyper-Ferguson (Suits), Christina Moore, Javier Bolaños, Kate Mansi (Unwanted Guest), Daniel Edward Mora, Loren Escandón, Bruce Davison, Shalim Ortiz, Lauren Swickard, and Charly Debenedetti.
Producers on the project include Ali Afshar, Christina Moore, Daniel Aspromonte, and Ava Rettke, with Lauren Swickard serving as executive producer.
The digital release continues the growing trend of modern western thrillers finding new audiences through premium digital platforms, especially as audiences increasingly gravitate toward grounded genre stories built around family conflict, moral ambiguity, and survival themes rather than traditional blockbuster spectacle.
And honestly, with Lou Diamond Phillips stepping into a morally dangerous antagonist role while Madison Lawlor anchors the emotional core of the story, Casa Grande looks positioned to deliver a more intimate, character-driven western experience rooted in modern anxieties and emotional tension.
Casa Grande becomes available digitally for the first time on June 2.
