A Dose Of Colemanism: Hope Fully

November 11, 2021

By Caprice Coleman

I was talking to a friend and encouraging them on some of their recent successes. They’d had several matches in respectable organizations and I was letting them know that I see them and I’m proud.

Their response was, “Hopefully something happens from it.” I heard what they said, then I heard how it was said. “Hopefully” is a powerful word.

“Hope” in itself is an optimistic term, meaning you’re expecting something great to happen.

Today’s usage of the word “hopefully” could be switched out with the word “maybe.” But the latter means it may or may not happen.

Can you see the huge contrast in these words?

I’m not in any way encouraging you to switch the words. I want you to mean what you say.

I want you to be full of hope! Fully expecting your work to pay off, your door to open, and your breakthrough to come! Hope fully — fully anticipate this to be the one.

Put all your eggs in one basket? … Yes, every time. I believe you’ll find whatever you’re truly looking for.

Look for hope in all your situations. Even if it’s a little bit of hope, hope with it fully! Don’t lose hope, and when you hope, hope fully.

Just something to think about. I call it a dose of Colemanism.
