This is the fourth installment in “The Preparation Station,” a series which focuses on time, people and you.

I trust you’ve been enjoying “The Preparation Station” series as much as I have. I started writing these with the idea of helping others and ended up learning things about myself along the way.

It has reminded me that as time goes on, sometimes we need to check in on ourselves to make sure we’re still the person we think we are or strive to be. “Time, people and you” will always be intertwined, and if we’re not careful, we could easily lose ourselves.

I’d like to end this series with a folk tale I’ve heard along the way.

In the pioneer days there was a town called Peaceville. The deputy of the town sat outside of Peaceville’s gate. As people would go by he would say, “Welcome to Peaceville, the most peaceful place on Earth.”

Every once in a while there would be someone coming by to possibly move into Peaceville. The deputy would always strike a conversation with them. He’d always ask how the town was where they were coming from. When people responded to the question, he could tell right away if they fit in at Peaceville.

The first person one particular day was named Grudge. He wanted to move to Peaceville because in the town he left everybody hated each other, held things against each other, and no one could be trusted.

“How is Peaceville?”

The deputy replied: “It’s the same here. Can’t trust anybody, everybody hates each other. You might want to find the next city.”

Grudge moved on.

The next inquiry came from Gossip. She said everyone talks about each other and no one could be trusted in her town.

“As soon as they tell you about somebody, they’re telling somebody else about you. No one could be trusted,” She said.

The deputy replied: “I know what you mean. It’s the same thing here. You might want to go to the next town.”

One more person showed up to the Peaceville gate that day to talk to the deputy; her name was Grace. She said the place she left was great!

“It’s what you made it,” she said. “We had ups and downs, but for the most part everybody got along, helped each other out, showed patience and kindness. We’re just relocating for opportunities.”

The deputy replied: “Well, you’re at the right place! People here are kind, help each other, and we’re always looking for better opportunities. You’d be a great fit here. Come on in!”

The moral of the story is you bring with you who you are. Many people go to different places and get the same outcome because it’s not the place, it’s the person.

In this series, I hope you’ve learned how to take time seriously, watch other people, and manage yourself. Keep your Peace. 🙂

Just something to think about. I call it a dose of Colemanism.
