During the leadup to the Pure Title Tournament, Jonathan Gresham said he was on a mission to restore honor to Ring Honor because pure wrestlers were the foundation of the company.
Gresham was not alone in his thinking. He was joined in the cause by his best friend Jay Lethal, “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams, and Rhett Titus. The four like-minded wrestlers formed The Foundation.
The Foundation wasted no time becoming a force in ROH. Gresham won the Pure Title Tournament by defeating Williams in the finals (Williams had beaten Lethal in the semifinals), and Gresham and Lethal reigned as ROH World Tag Team Champions throughout 2020.
At Final Battle in December, ROH’s biggest show of the year,The Foundation put on a dominant performance.
Gresham became the first wrestler to successfully defend two titles at Final Battle, as he turned back Flip Gordon’s challenge for the Pure Championship, and he and Lethal defeated PCO and Mark Briscoe with the tag team titles on the line.
Also that night, Williams and Titus won the first-ever Pure Rules tag team match, defeating Fred Yehi and Wheeler Yuta.
