The IMPACT Wrestling archives are full of unforgettable matches and moments. This week on the Pluto TV Rewind, we take a look back at the 2014 edition of Genesis, Night One!
Formerly a pay-per-view extravaganza, Genesis became a special episode of IMPACT Wrestling’s weekly show in 2014. Now, fans from around the world could witness a pay-per-view quality card, for free! In fact, the card was so stacked that it couldn’t fit onto one single episode of IMPACT Wrestling, they had to stretch it over two weeks!
Night one featured a four-match card that opened with a mixed 12-person tag team match! The team of ODB, James Storm, Gunner, Samoa Joe, Joseph Park & Eric Young battled Lei’D Tapa, Christopher Daniels, Kazarian, Robbie E, Jessie Godderz and DJZ. Fans would be hard pressed to find a match packed with so much talent! At the end of this gigantic clash, Samoa Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch on Christopher Daniels, forcing him to tap out.
After that, former Aces and Eights teammates Bully Ray and Mr. Anderson would settle their personal feud in a No Disqualification Match. With the Aces and Eights gone from IMPACT Wrestling, neither man would be receiving any help form their comrades – this was man-to-man until only one was left standing! After a failed attempt at putting Bully Ray through a flaming table, Mr. Anderson got hit with a devastating Piledriver. After an ultra-violent match filled with weapons, Bully Ray pinned Mr. Anderson to put an end to this rivalry.
Next up was another battle of former friends as Gail Kim put her Knockouts Championship on the line against Madison Rayne. This match came about after Kim replaced Madison Rayne with Lei’D Tapa as her best-friend and bodyguard! Unfortunately for Gail Kim, Lei’D was caught by the referee getting involved in the matchup, causing her to be ejected from ringside! This evened the playing field and allowed Madison Rayne to score the victory and the Knockouts Championship!
After an altercation earlier in the evening, the main event of Genesis 2014 Night One saw Sting clash with EC3 in singles action. However, it wasn’t exactly a fair contest. Dixie Carter was in control and there would be dire consequences for anyone who stepped in her way! In an effort to stack the odds against Sting, Dixie Carter’s assistant Rockstar Spud was made the special guest referee. After he got inadvertently knocked out during the match, World Champion Magnus and other Dixie Carter team member Magnus was made the new official! In the end, it was just too much for Sting to overcome as Magnus utilized a quick count to award EC3 the victory.
Genesis 2014 was off to a hot start and this was only night one! Check out next week’s edition of the Pluto TV Rewind to find out what happened on Night Two.
