Chris Jericho Wins AEW Championship
Saturday night crowned the first AEW champion in 48-year-old Chris Jericho. Many saw this coming, but the decision is controversial. Should the “Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah” have won the first championship for a promotion that is trying to showcase young, unnoticed guys? Many say yes because of the name and instant prestige the title now has because of it. Others disagree and say push the young guy in “Hangman” Adam Page.
CM Punk, AJ Lee and Scarlett Bordeaux Do Not Appear at All Out
While there were no actual reports of them being on the show, many speculations and expected CM Punk, AJ Lee and Scarlett Bordeaux to appear on the show. Probably not all would appear, but you would have thought one would have, right? They didn’t. Cody Rhodes vs Shawn Spears Steal the Show!
Many would agree that the match of the night was the match between Cody Rhodes and Shawn Spears. While most of the matches were entertaining and delivered in their own way, Cody brought an emotion from the crowd unlike any other match on the card. The crowd was very strong throughout the night, but the crowd popped the minute Cody dove into Shawn Spears and were invested all throughout.
The other match of the night contender was the ladder match for the AAA Tag Team Championships between The Young Bucks and the Lucha Bros. They risked it all in this match including a very dangerous spot where Nick Jackson was pushed off the ladder. On that spot, his feet caught on the ropes and his head hit a table as he broke through another.
AEW Solidifies That They Have the Best Tag Team Division
With 4 tag team matches on the card Saturday, it is clear AEW wants to put on the best tag team division in the world. So far, they are doing a really good job at that. The crowd continues to get behind Jungle Boy and Luchasauarus as the most over team in the company. Private Party have established themselves as fan favorites with a win over Angelico and Jack Evans which is huge heading into their first-round match for the All Elite Wrestling Tag Team Championship Match against the Young Bucks. We also got the debut of Santana and Ortiz of LAX who attacked the Lucha Bros and Young Bucks after their match.
