They say an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Never has that more been the case than with Eddie Edwards and Sami Callihan. Eddie has been blindly overcome with rage. His thirst for vengeance has worried Tommy Dreamer and alienated his wife Alisha. He will not stop until he has ended Sami Callihan.
Not metaphorically. Literally. Eddie Edwards wants to kill Sami Callihan. But how did it get to this?
March 1st, 2018 irrevocably changed Eddie Edwards’ life forever. After Eddie snatched a victory over Sami Callihan in the IMPACT main event, Sami snapped. Sami drove a baseball bat into the face of Edwards with reckless abandon. The blow broke Eddie’s nose and orbital bone. He had to be rushed to hospital.
The baseball shot wasn’t a proportional response. Eddie did nothing to warrant that reaction – he was simply joining Lashley in standing up to oVe – but Sami lashed out. Sami didn’t care about what could happen to Eddie – it was a vile, despicable attack. It could have ended Eddie Edwards’ career and it is something Eddie would never forget.
Immediately afterwards Eddie was out for revenge but it seemed like the kind of revenge we always see – Eddie simply wanted to return the kind of suffering he felt to Sami. That opportunity was taken from him at IMPACT vs. Lucha Underground as Don Callis forfeited on Eddie’s behalf. While we can debate whether or not that was the correct decision (and it sparked as whole different issue between Callis and Callihan), it was clear that Eddie felt like his opportunity at revenge was taken from him.
As time passed something changed. Something snapped inside Eddie Edwards. Beating Sami Callihan was no longer enough, by the time Eddie reached Redemption he wanted to destroy Sami. With Callihan trapped and prone in the ropes, with Dave and Jake Crist dealt with – Eddie was going to finally have his revenge. Kendo stick in hand, Eddie was going to punish Sami until there was absolutely nothing left.
Only inadvertently striking Alisha snapped him out of it. You’d think that would be the end of it. Eddie’s unbridled rage caused him to accidentally strike his wife with a Kendo stick. You’d think that would make him see sense. You’d think Tommy Dreamer warning him about where this road leads would make Eddie see the light. You’d think defeating Sami Callihan in a Street Fight at House of Hardcore would satisfy the bloodlust.
But none of that has been the case.
This Thursday on IMPACT we have reached a seemingly inevitable conclusion. There will be no ring. No referee. No rules. No law and order. There will be nothing stopping Eddie Edwards this time. He and Sami Callihan are going to the woods. They will fight. Only one man will leave.
This is what its come to. This is who Eddie Edwards is now.
