Former AWA Women’s Champion Candi Divine Passes Away

We here at Bodyslam are saddened to learn of the passing of multiple-time AWA Women’s Champion Candi Divine (Candace Rummell) at the age of 63.

Divine entered the professional wrestling industry in 1984. In 1984, she won the AWA Women’s Championship for the very first time, as the title was resurrected in a battle royal. Divine and Sherri Martel traded the championship multiple times over the next two years. Divine would hold the title for the last time in December 1989. winning the prize at a house show in Toronto. She was the final AWA Women’s Champion.

Divine would win championships from an assortment of promotions including WWC in Puerto Rico, USWA and the WWWA. She worked for Herb Abrams’ UWF group and won the Women’s Championship at their Blackjack Brawl event in September 1994 defeating Tina Moretti, better known as Ivory, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena for the vacant championship. Divine was honored by the Cauliflower Alley Club in 1994.
