Generation Me and The Motor City Machine Guns’ Iconic Rivalry – The Pluto TV Rewind

September 4, 2018

In 2010, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, otherwise known as the Motor City Machine Guns, were one of the most popular tag teams in the world of professional wrestling. Fans from every corner of the globe adored their high-flying style and never-say-die attitude, which propelled them to superstardom in IMPACT Wrestling. However a new tag-team was on the rise in the independents, one whose style was very similar to the Machine Guns. Max and Jeremy Buck had seen success in numerous independent promotions and were looking for their next challenge – naturally, IMPACT Wrestling was the place to go.

On the January 14th, 2010 episode of IMPACT!, Max and Jeremy Buck made their television debut for IMPACT Wrestling under the team name Generation Me – and that’s exactly what they were all about. The two brothers only cared about themselves and made sure to display their cocky attitude towards their opponents and the fans. However, it wouldn’t be an easy first night on the job for Generation Me – they were up against two of the best in Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, the Motor City Machine Guns. After both teams displayed some of the amazing moves that made them famous, Generation Me shocked the world by defeating the Motor City Machine Guns in their debut match.

This was the beginning of a long and storied rivalry between the two teams. Their chemistry was untouchable, as they went on to have some of the most exciting matches in IMPACT Wrestling history. Both teams deserved a shot at the IMPACT Wrestling Tag Team Championship and that’s exactly what was on the line at Destination X 2010. However, this was no normal match – this was the signature match of IMPACT Wrestling’s X-Division – this was Ultimate X. Who better than two of the most athletic, acrobatic teams in professional wrestling history to perform in a match that’s as high-risk as they are? They did not disappoint.

The match was wall-to-wall nonstop action like only the Machine Guns and Generation Me could provide. As it was reaching its final stage, Chris Sabin and Max Buck climbed the cables, both racing towards the “X” that would grant them the Tag Team Championship opportunity. Kicking and fighting, Sabin gained the upper-hand and sent Max crashing down to the mat below. Sabin grabbed the “X”, securing a shot at the gold for him and his Machine Guns partner, Alex Shelley.

The Guns would go on to win the Tag Team Championships later in the year – and Generation Me was watching their every move. At No Surrender 2010, the Motor City Machine Guns were set to make a title defense. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, their scheduled opponents were unable to compete. IMPACT Wrestling management stepped up and revealed Generation Me as their replacements – another chapter in this rivalry was about to be written!

After another instant classic, the Machine Guns retained the gold. This started a series of championship clashes between the two teams that took place over the next several months. At Final Resolution 2010, the two teams looked to attain just that when they met in a Full Metal Mayhem match with the tag titles on the line! Chairs, Ladders, Tables – this match was hardcore chaos! The Machine Guns were once again able to escape with the gold intact after Sabin sent Max Buck through a table off the top of a ladder!

Two of the greatest tag teams in professional wrestling history put it all on the line in a memorable rivalry as seen on IMPACT Wrestling.
