Kazuchika Okada vs Jon Moxley in NJPW G1 Climax 29 Finals?

July 29, 2019

Could we see a New Japan Pro Wrestling vs All Elite Wrestling Matchup in the Finals of the G1 Climax?

It’s most definitely possible! After 5 matches, IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada is undefeated in a very stacked A-Block. However, he is not the only undefeated participant in the round-robin tournament. Jon Moxley is also 5-0 and has a 4-point lead in the B-Block standings with 4 matches to go.

Assuming Moxley goes at least 3-1 in his final 4 matches, he will clinch the B-Block and face the winner of the A-Block for a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 14. Okada has a smaller margin, but with a 2-point lead and the tiebreaker over his most recent opponent, KENTA who many in the US might remember as Hideo Itami in WWE and NXT, Okada could have locked his spot in the finals in the A-Block.

If Okada Wins…

He chooses his opponent at Wrestle Kingdom 14. Whether that would be his faction mate Will Ospreay, Kota Ibushi, IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito or someone else is yet to be determined. If he wins, he may be doing so with a perfect record. Something that has only been done by Masahiro Chono. This would solidify him as arguably the greatest Japanese wrestler of all time.

If Moxley Wins…

We get the rematch at Wrestle Kingdom. AEW will be in full swing with weekly television. So, what would that mean? Essentially he would only be gone for one week, but as the current IWGP US Champion, New Japan would probably want him around longer. So, how can he be at two places at one time? Who is the first to blink and have Moxley put someone over? Would it be Okada? Would it be Kenny Omega?

Only time will tell.
