When Mike Bennett returned to ROH at the end of 2020 after a five-year absence, he and best friend Matt Taven had one goal: to regain the ROH World Tag Team Championship they had held for several months in 2015.
It was a long, hard road back to the top, but The OGK reached their destination at Honor For All on Nov. 14 when they defeated La Faccion Ingobernable’s Dragon Lee and Kenny King for the title.
The victory occurred more than six years after Bennett and Taven won the belts the first time. No team has gone that long between title reigns.
It also marked the seventh championship win in ROH for Taven. Only Jay Briscoe (14) and Mark Briscoe (12) have more ROH title victories.
Fittingly, The OGK’s first title defense will be against the 11-time former ROH World Tag Team Champion Briscoes at Final Battle: End of an Era on Dec. 11. The two teams battled numerous times and traded victories throughout 2014 and 2015.
Prior to defeating LFI at Honor For All, The OGK beat Flip Gordon and PJ Black on the episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling that aired the weekend of Nov. 13.
