Here’s a preview of this weekend’s episode of “Ring of Honor Wrestling:”
No-Disqualification Match: Rey Horus vs. Demonic Flamita
The ROH Board of Directors realized the only way to settle the heated issue between the former friends is to have them go at it in a match in which anything goes.
The history between the two luchadors began six years ago when they were frequent opponents in Mexico. They later became tag partners, and along with Bandido, formed MexiSquad.
The trio won the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Title in January 2020, a couple months before ROH went on hiatus due to the pandemic. When MexiSquad returned in February 2021 to make their first title defense, Flamita was obviously a changed man.
Flamita turned his back on Bandido and Horus that night. Since then he has fully embraced his dark side, adopting the moniker of Demonic Flamita.
Demonic Flamita defeated Horus in a Survival of the Fittest qualifying match in June, but Horus won the second meeting at Best in the World last month. Horus had no time to enjoy his victory, however, as Demonic Flamita attacked him immediately following the match.
ROH Women’s World Title Tournament Quarterfinals
Rok-C vs. Quinn McKay
Some would bill this as a battle of underdogs, but is it really?
Rok-C’s win over former world champion Sumie Sakai in the first round, and McKay’s win over a more experienced and accomplished Mandy Leon in the first round, were considered upsets, but perhaps that’s not giving Rok-C and McKay their due.
Rok-C is called “The Prodigy” for a reason. The 19-year-old began training for pro wrestling at 13 and currently holds two regional championships. She’s 2-0 in singles competition in ROH.
Even though McKay lost to seven-time former world champion Angelina Love and Leon in her two other matches in ROH, it took outside interference and brass knuckles to beat her. McKay is in outstanding physical condition, and her heart and will to win makes up for her lack of experience.
Nicole Savoy vs. Miranda Alize
Savoy and Alize are both well-traveled veterans, but this will be the first time they’ve faced each other.
This match is a contrast in styles. Savoy employs a ground and pound game and rarely leaves her feet; Alize relies on her quickness, and as her “Lucha Baddie” moniker indicates, she possesses an arsenal of lucha libre moves.
Savoy, who defeated Mazzerati in the first round, has the most impressive resume of anyone in the tournament. “The Queen of Suplexes” held the Shimmer Title for a record 721 days in 2017-2019 and has wins over Love and Sakai in ROH.
Alize, who scored a hard-fought victory over her friend Alex Gracia in the first round, is 3-0 in ROH. She has wrestled extensively in Mexico and competed for Stardom in Japan.
