Here’s a preview of this weekend’s episode of “Ring of Honor Wrestling:”
Eli Isom vs. LSG
This is a matchup between two hungry competitors looking to ascend in the ROH World Television Title rankings.
Two weeks ago, Isom wrestled his first match in ROH in more than a year, and he immediately reminded everyone why he’s regarded as a future champion. Isom scored an impressive victory over veteran Rey Horus, who in recent months beat former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle and came within an eyelash of defeating then-ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee.
LSG also has been opening eyes as of late. “The Ace of Space” took two-time former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal to a 15-minute draw in a Pure rules match late last year, and he defeated Tony Deppen last month. He also pinned Bandido in a recent Triple Threat elimination match.
Isom and LSG have only met once before in a one-on-one match, in February 2020. Nothing was decided in that one, as the match resulted in a no-contest due to outside interference.
At that time, their match had no fanfare and they were lucky just to be on the card. Now the stakes are higher.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Any up-and-coming guy that wants to come to Ring of Honor, who wants to make a name for himself in Ring of Honor, has to go through me,” LSG said. “You’re not going to get a TV Title shot at my expense.”
Isom’s reply? “Challenge accepted.”
“I’m willing to go through anybody,” Isom added. “But if you think that I am a person that needs to go through you, then by all means, let’s do it. Let’s get it on. Let’s see who the better man is. I’m not going to let you best me. I am not going to let anybody best me.”
Danhausen vs. Brian Johnson
These two just plain don’t like each other. OK, Johnson doesn’t like anybody. But he really doesn’t like the very nice, very evil Danhausen.
Their feud began at Final Battle in December. Needing a win for his ROH contract to go into effect, Danhausen used some subterfuge to defeat Johnson by disqualification. In a rematch last month that an irate Johnson demanded, “The Mecca” gained a measure of revenge by cheating his way to victory.
Johnson scored another tainted win over Danhausen at 19th Anniversary last weekend, but that was in a four-way match. This weekend it’ll be one-on-one for the third (and perhaps final) time.
“Danhausen, you have made a mockery of this sport that I love for too damn long, and it’s about time I put an end to it!” screamed Johnson, the veins in forehead bulging.
Danhausen was a bit calmer (and somewhat confused), but no less determined to defeat Johnson.
“This is a rubber match of some sort. Danhausen doesn’t understand what that means to be quite honest. Some sort of rubber contraption that we will be trapped in, fighting. Who knows?” Danhausen said. “But … Danhausen must beat him again, and again, and again, and again, apparently. It is never ending. Brian Johnstone will rue the day he crossed Danhausen. Again.”
