Seth Rollins Talks About The Benefits Of Storytelling In The WWE ThunderDome

April 7, 2021

One of the things Vince McMahon has appreciated since the creation of the WWE ThunderDome is the fact he can control crowd reactions during live shows. It has allowed several interesting things, including the WWE piping in chants for Goldberg or even broadcasting a train sound during Braun Strowman’s charging shoulder block around the ring. At least one fan appreciates this, because it prevents fans from hijacking the show.

Seth Rollins spoke to the Out of Character podcast, saying the ThunderDome allows the WWE to tell their stories in a better way, mentioning they aren’t as “up and down as they may normally be.” Another benefit, he spoke about, was not having to deal with a popular chant fans have used in recent years.

“I still think social media still plays quite a role in how shows are written and how characters are portrayed. [The ThunderDome] has allowed us to tell our stories a little cleaner in the sense that things aren’t up and down as they may normally be. Whether that’s good or bad, I’m not entirely sure. I miss the fans and live interaction, but I like being able to cut a promo and getting all the way through without having to side-eye the audience. It’s nice to get a thought out without being interrupted by ‘CM Punk’ chants.”

While having no live crowd has certainly brought out more aspects of storytelling that WWE doesn’t normally use, certainly some of the Superstars might miss the spontaneous nature of the WWE Universe. With live fans at WrestleMania, they’ll have a chance to hear those fans again, and if Rollins is unlucky, a CM Punk chant.
