IMPACT Wrestling’s biggest pay-per-view of the year is right around the corner. Bound for Glory, presented by COMDA.com, comes to you on October 14th, live from New York City. In spirit of this must-see event, let’s enter the time machine and take a look at a past Bound for Glory moment we’ll never forget!
The battle for power and control between the Main Event Mafia and the Frontline is a well-known tale. Later in 2009, however, a third group would insert themselves into the melee. Led by Eric Young, World Elite was comprised of competitors from outside the United States. The British Invasion, Sheik Abdul Bashir, Kiyoshi, Homicide and Rob Terry came together to create a powerful force. Their goal: take back from America.
The war raged on between the Main Event Mafia and the Frontline with no end in sight. The Mafia would do anything to gain the upper-hand and that’s exactly what this blockbuster move would grant them. The leader of the Mafia, Kurt Angle and the leader of World Elite, Eric Young struck a deal to merge their two groups, creating a mega-faction like no other. They enjoyed success for a few months, using the massive numbers advantage to solidify their dominance over the rest of the IMPACT Wrestling roster. However, with two egomaniacs like Kurt Angle and Eric Young at the controls, their differing opinions on direction would cause tension amongst the two groups. Heading into the 2009 Bound for Glory pay-per-view, chaos ensued as a huge brawl erupted between World Elite and the Mafia, effectively ending their working relationship.
Eric Young declared victory for the World Elite over the Main Event Mafia. However, the war was far from over in Kurt Angle’s mind. Angle placed a $30,000 bounty on the head of Eric Young. Whoever could take him out, it was theirs to claim! Eric Young was set to clash with Hernandez in a singles bout at Bound for Glory, after Hernandez refused to join World Elite. Afraid he might take Angle up on his offer, Eric Young made a proposal to the Mafia’s big man, Kevin Nash. He offered to double the $30K that Angle offered. In exchange, his singles match at Bound for Glory would become a three-way for Nash’s Legends Title and the two would team up to take out Hernandez for good! Being the businessman that he is, Nash accepted the offer and the change was made official.
Hernandez fell victim to the numbers game in the early going. It was two-on-one as the Nash, Young partnership took total control on the biggest pay-per-view of the year. Young called for Nash’s devastating Jackknife Powerbomb to finish off Hernandez once and for all when Young’s true intentions were revealed! Young drove Hernandez head first into Nash’s groin, connecting with a unique low-blow! Young frantically scored the pinfall on Kevin Nash, awarding him the match! Whether or not it was his intention from the beginning, Young left Bound for Glory with more enemies than he entered with. However, he also left with his $60K intact and one of the most prestigious prizes in professional wrestling – the IMPACT Wrestling Legends Championship.
