The road to Bound for Glory can be a treacherous ride – let’s enter the time machine and take a look at what the road to BFG 2010 had in store for Angelina Love, Tara, Madison Rayne and Velvet Sky!
At Lockdown 2010, a unique tag team match took place with Angelina Love’s Knockouts Championship at stake. The match pitted former Beautiful People leader Angelina Love and Tara against Madison Rayne and Velvet Sky. Whoever scored the pin-fall or submission would walk away with the Knockouts Championship in-hand. The Knockouts of IMPACT Wrestling never hold back, and that was exactly the case when these four women did battle inside Lockdown’s signature steel cage. Much to Angelina Love’s disappointment, Madison Rayne ended up pinning Tara to win the match, meaning Angelina lost her Knockouts Championship without even being pinned!
The following month at Sacrifice, Madison Rayne defended her newly won Knockouts Championship against Tara. However, there was a catch. Madison agreed to put her Knockouts title on the line under one condition: Tara had to put up her career!After a back-and-forth battle, Tara’s ultimate sacrifice didn’t end up coming to fruition as she was defeated by Madison, effectively ending her professional wrestling career.
Throughout the Summer, Madison continued to end the careers of hopeful Knockouts looking to claim the division’s top prize. At Slammiversary 2010, she defeated Roxxi in another Title vs. Career match, forcing her to retire. At 2010’s Victory Road pay-per-view, Madison renewed her rivalry with Angelina Love. The main stipulation remained the same: It was Madison’s Knockouts Championship vs. Angelina’s career. However, there was another rule that played into the match. Due to their recent interference in Madison’s matches, if Velvet Sky or Lacey von Erich got involved on Madison’s behalf, Madison would lose the match and her title! Controversy reigned supreme when a masked woman attacked Angelina, causing the disqualification. The referee believed it to be Velvet or Lacey, so the Knockouts Championship was awarded to Angelina. However, without real proof that the attacker was one of Madison’s associates, the title was later returned to Madison.
After Madison eventually lost the Knockouts title to Angelina in August 2010, the masked attacker revealed themselves – it was the same person Madison retired earlier in the year at Sacrifice, Tara! Why would Tara side with the very woman who forced her to end her career? Madison explained that she needed protection after a falling out with Velvet Sky and Lacey von Erich. Since Tara wanted to return to professional wrestling, Madison made her an offer to return as her bodyguard.
It was time for IMPACT Wrestling’s biggest pay-per-view of 2010, Bound for Glory! Angelina Love would put the Knockouts Championship up for grabs in a four-way match against Madison Rayne, Tara and Velvet Sky with Mickie James as the special guest referee. Even though it was billed as every woman for herself, Madison instructed Tara to help her win the Knockouts Championship by taking out Velvet and Angelina. However, disaster struck when Tara’s instincts kicked in and she pinned Velvet to win the Knockouts Championship! Tara was torn — she was ecstatic that she had won the Knockouts title after being forced to retire earlier in the year. But at the same time, Madison was furious when she realized what Tara had done. Madison berated Tara after the match but Mickie James came to her aid, laying out Madison with a knockout shot!
