The Other Side: Got Any Merch?

Hello.

Hi.

Bonjour.

Broken record here.

I’ll tell you something: Selling t-shirts is overrated.

Special K, does anyone even read this blog anymore? I feel like this blog is like one of those bikes with the massive front wheel from the 1920s.

If you meet a soon-to-be or an in-training wrestler, I guarantee you they’ve already got their first t-shirt design done. Maybe they scouted it on Upwork. Maybe they are versed in Photoshop. Selling a shirt is more important than understanding why you slap your opponent in the face.

A whole bunch of people who hate each other, who physically fight each other, spend all day bitching about each other, then — out of greed/necessity — they put their differences aside mid-/post-show to sell you a Gildan with a picture of their face on it. Pretty weird.

Merch, merch, merch. “Gotta get some merch made.”

Wrestling nihilism.

I don’t sell t-shirts. I used to. Gildan’s a great company, though. Pretty much synonymous with t-shirt printing.

It’s hard to judge hypocrisy.

But, seriously, what’s not to love about the French? I like the way they protest. It’s way more passionate.

In Australia, we’re feuding with a stable of young, crazy, vagabonds. It’s getting hairy. I personally don’t like it because they are using my name in a loose attempt to bolster their online reputation.

They are trying to make out like I’m engaging them because they are young and fresh, in turn making me relevant. I’m engaging them because it’s pissed me off. Lines get crossed.

I’ll be honest with you guys: I don’t know what it means to be relevant right now. Feels like there are about five different realities taking place as I type this.

This feud I’m in gnited me like wildfire. You get influenced by these digital moods that sweep across social media. Bloodthirst, but in pixels. Is this where wrestling shifts?

Did people get tired of melodrama on TV, so then comes reality TV, which is the same but dressed down to give the illusion of reality?

I don’t know, man.

Social media is good for anger and can band-aid your low self-esteem every now and then, but I don’t know if it can paint a picture for the person who wants to watch a fight.

On a positive note, D minor.

I hope you’re all well and staying safe.
