Trey Miguel Opens Up On His Decision To Return To Impact Wrestling

February 4, 2021

Trey Miguel recently made his return to Impact Wrestling, but this time the former Rascalz member is flying solo. After being a member of the trio for most of his Impact tenure, he is flying solo this time as both Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz are now in NXT as MSK (Wes Lee and Nash Carter). While many thought the Rascalz would be heading to the black and gold brand as a trio following a storyline where they lost ownership of their tree house, Miguel has returned and is on his own.

Trey opened up about this split on Taylor Wilde’s Wilde On podcast, and he detailed exactly his thoughts going into it. While Miguel feels that Impact had run out of creative plans for them as a trio, he also feels his former Rascalz mates need something new with wrestling compared to what he needs.

“Zach is married and Dez is engaged now. They just need wrestling in a different way right now. They need [wrestling] to do different things for them than I do. I don’t mean to make it seem like I’m speaking bad about IMPACT, they ran out of things to do with The Rascalz. There’s no need in staying if there’s nothing to do. I have ideas for IMPACT and things I want to do and things that I didn’t get done yet. I don’t want to leave without getting that done. IMPACT also affords me the luxury of being able to stay home, which is super duper important to me because we have a wrestling school here. I’m one of the head trainers and I’m there every single day. I’m so close to the kids we have there and the other trainers. I have a lot of family here. Wrestling has my heart more than anything in the world, but there’s so much personally that I can’t pull myself away from my family right now. I can’t do that. I have a brother that passed away in 2013. It’s life. My oldest brother just had my most recent nephew and he was born two months premature because his mother fell ill, so they actually induced her. He’s home now, but he was in isolated care for two months. They named him after my late brother. I couldn’t imagine moving to fucking Orlando a month after this little miracle. That’s not it for me. It’s not like if I don’t go to Orlando, I don’t get to wrestle anymore. I still get to wrestle more than anyone at NXT. I train whenever I want.”

Miguel was very open about his choice to choose family over wrestling when the word got out Carter and Lee had signed with the WWE without him. His priority was his family, and he can and should be respected for that decision. Miguel is obviously still a top star for Impact, but now he’s doing it as a solo act instead of a group.
