The IMPACT Wrestling archives are full of unforgettable matches and moments. This week on the Pluto TV Rewind, we head back to December 2015 and a special One Night Only pay-per-view event! The battle lines were drawn and the war was about to begin – it’s USA vs. The World!
On this night,Team USA and Team World would do battle for ultimate supremacy. Whoever won more matches at the end of the event would be declared the victor. Team USA was comprised of Gunner, EC3, James Storm, Mr. Anderson, Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, Austin Aries, DJZ, Jessie Godderz, and Taryn Terrell. Team World was represented by six countries: United Kingdom, Japan, Mexico, India, Scotland and Canada. From the UK, Magnus, Bram and Rockstar Spud. From Japan, The Great Muta and The Great Sanada. From Mexico, Tigre Uno. From Scotland, Drew Galloway. From India, Sonjay Dutt and Mahabali Shera. And finally from Canada, Angelina Love. Both teams were filled to the brim with amazing athletes of all styles — it was sure to provide the fans with some top-notch action!
The night kicked off with Team USA’s Davey Richards vs. Team World’s Tigre Uno. In this battle of high-flyers, Davey Richards scored the victory. This gave Team USA the 1-0 lead right out of the gate. Then, the Knockouts took centre stage as Team USA’s Taryn Terrell battled Team World’s Angelina Love. Taryn Terrell won this matchup between former Knockouts champions, putting Team USA up 2-0. The momentum continued as Team USA’s Austin Aries defeated Team World’s Great Sanada, giving Team USA the 3-0 advantage. If Team World wanted a mere chance at winning this war, they had to get a victory and they had to get it soon!
Luckily, that much-needed victory was right around the corner for Team World as Bram defeated Team USA’s Eddie Edwards. However, they couldn’t start celebrating yet as they were still down 3-1 on the scoreboard. Drew Galloway was next to represent Team World in a match against Team USA’s Jessie Godderz. Galloway kept the momentum going for his team with another victory, bringing the score to 3-2. It was clear Team World gained the confidence they needed as Khoya defeated Team USA’s Gunner in a big upset to tie the score at 3-3!
The slate was wiped clean and tensions were at an all-time high! For the first time all night, Team World took the 4-3 lead when Rockstar Spud defeated Team USA’s DJZ. However, Team USA bounced right back with EC3’s win over Team World’s Sonjay Dutt, tying it up at 4-4. Team USA’s James Storm and Team World’s Magnus fought to a double countout meaning the score would be settled in the main event!
The final bout of the evening was a tie-breaker match pitting Team USA’s Mr. Anderson against The Great Muta of Team World. Not only was this a once-in-a-lifetime matchup, but it was the bout that would decide which team would win at One Night Only: USA vs. The World! After a hard-fought contest, the legendary Great Muta defeated Mr. Anderson, declaring victory not only for himself but also for Team World!
