Hosted in partnership with the Washington Commanders and Events DC, the free three-day celebration will transform downtown Washington, D.C. into the center of the football world as hundreds of thousands of fans gather to witness the next generation of NFL stars hear their names called.

The Draft Theater will be staged on the National Mall in front of the United States Capitol, creating one of the most iconic backdrops in NFL Draft history. Meanwhile, the NFL Draft Experience, the league’s massive interactive fan festival, will stretch along Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 7th Streets, with additional activations surrounding the National Mall throughout the weekend.

For football fans across the DMV, this marks another milestone in what has quickly become a transformative era for the region’s sports landscape.

The NFL Draft Comes to the Nation’s Capital

The NFL Draft has evolved far beyond a player selection meeting. Today, it stands as one of the league’s largest annual events, combining football, entertainment, music, community engagement, and fan experiences into a festival that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors.

The 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh set a new attendance record by drawing more than 805,000 fans across three days, highlighting just how significant the event has become.

Now Washington, D.C. gets its opportunity to welcome football fans from around the world.

“The NFL Draft continues to grow as one of our biggest and most accessible events, and we are excited to welcome fans and prospects to Washington, D.C., in 2027,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL Executive Vice President of Club Business, International and Global Events. “Our nation’s capital will provide an incredible, iconically American stage to host fans from around the world, as we celebrate the next generation of NFL stars.”

A Celebration Beyond Football

Throughout Draft weekend, fans can expect far more than simply hearing draft picks announced.

The NFL Draft Experience will once again serve as the league’s premier free fan festival, featuring interactive exhibits, football challenges, youth activities through the Play 60 Zone, photo opportunities with the Vince Lombardi Trophy, autograph sessions with current and former NFL players, exclusive merchandise, and numerous community events throughout the city.

The weekend will also feature the Draft Entertainment Series presented by Bud Light, bringing live entertainment and special performances to complement the football festivities.

For Washington, D.C., the event offers another opportunity to showcase the city as a destination capable of hosting world-class sporting events on a global stage.

A Major Moment for the DMV

The announcement also represents another significant chapter for the Washington Commanders organization.

Coming off renewed excitement surrounding the franchise and its future return to the historic RFK Stadium site, the Draft gives fans throughout the DMV another marquee event to rally around.

“We are proud to partner with the NFL, Events DC and the District to bring the 2027 NFL Draft to Washington, D.C.,” said Washington Commanders President Mark Clouse. “Football is woven into the fabric of this city, and we look forward to creating a memorable experience for all fans and celebrating the next generation of NFL players as they realize their dreams.”

Mayor Muriel Bowser echoed those sentiments, inviting fans from around the country to begin planning their trips now while highlighting Washington’s restaurants, hotels, and springtime atmosphere as ideal ingredients for one of the NFL’s biggest weekends.
