DC Defenders Stay Unstoppable, Take Down Dallas Renegades as Audi Field Energy Hits Another Level

The DC Defenders stay hot with a dominant win over Dallas, fueled by explosive offense and a locked-in defense.
5 min read

There’s a different type of energy in Washington, D.C. right now, and if you’ve been anywhere near Audi Field on a game day, you already know—it’s not just football, it’s a movement. From the moment you step into the area, the sounds of D.C. go-go music echo through the concourse, fans dressed in red and white fill every section, and that championship culture hits you before kickoff even begins.

And on May 2, the DC Defenders gave that crowd exactly what it came for.

Behind another dominant performance, DC secured its fifth straight victory, taking down the Dallas Renegades in a game that felt in control from the moment things clicked offensively. This isn’t just a hot streak anymore—this is a team that looks like the standard of the UFL.

Watch Game Highlights

Ta’amu and the Offense Set the Tone Early

After a slow opening drive, quarterback Jordan Ta’amu and the offense didn’t just respond—they exploded. Big plays started stacking quickly, beginning with Briley Moore breaking loose for a 52-yard gain that immediately flipped momentum.

From there, it was surgical. Ta’amu connected with Erik Ezukanma for the first touchdown, then followed it up with another scoring drive capped by Mason Fairchild finding the end zone. By the time Cornell Powell made his one-handed grab—arguably one of the best catches of the season—the Defenders had completely taken over.

Ta’amu finished the first half with three touchdowns and full command of the offense, continuing a level of efficiency that’s becoming routine.

After the game, Ta’amu kept it grounded despite the milestone of surpassing 10,000 career spring football passing yards:

“I did not know that at all… that’s pretty cool accomplishment… but shout out to my O-line and great receivers. It’s easy when you have a group like that.”

That humility matches the identity of this team—production over noise.

Defense Continues to Define DC Football

If the offense brings the fireworks, the defense brings the tone—and once again, they made life difficult for Dallas all afternoon.

From forcing turnovers to locking down key third and fourth down situations, this unit continues to prove it’s one of the most complete in the league. Deandre Baker’s interception shifted momentum early, and the group consistently shut the door when Dallas tried to find rhythm.

Head coach Shannon Harris made it clear what separates this defense:

“Our biggest thing was try to tighten those windows up… these guys did a great job of being connected… huge shout out to our guys defensively.”

Safety Deontay Anderson echoed that same confidence:

“If we do our job… I don’t think nobody can beat us or be close to us.”

That’s not talk—that’s how they’re playing.

Audi Field Isn’t Just a Stadium—It’s a Culture

What’s happening in D.C. right now goes beyond the scoreboard. This fanbase has built something real, something that feels uniquely theirs.

The “Beer Snake” is alive. The crowd stays engaged from kickoff to final whistle. And even during key moments, you’ll catch the entire stadium doing the wave while players like Briley Moore are making plays—it’s that kind of environment.

It doesn’t have to be a sellout to feel electric. The energy is there, the pride is there, and most importantly, the team feeds off it.

As defensive back Gabriel Taylor put it after the game:

“We got the best fans in the UFL.”

That’s not just a quote—it’s something you feel when you’re there.

The Bigger Picture: DC Is Setting the Standard

This Defenders team isn’t just winning—they’re dictating how games are played. The offense is explosive, the defense is disciplined, and the coaching staff is aggressive when it matters, whether it’s dialing up fourth-down plays or trusting the roster to execute.

Even in moments where things slowed down in the second half, Harris made it clear the focus is about consistency, not chasing highlight plays:

“Every play ain’t going to go for 80… we just want to hit for singles and put the ball in.”

That mentality is what keeps this team dangerous week after week.

United Bowl Coming to D.C.

And if you needed another reason to believe this city is becoming the center of spring football, here it is—the 2026 United Bowl is coming to Audi Field.

The UFL Championship Game will take place on June 13 at 3:00 PM ET, airing on ABC, with tickets officially on sale now. Prices start at just $19, making it one of the most accessible championship environments in pro football. Tickets to the league’s championship game are available through Ticketmaster.  Premium and Group tickets are available through the DC Defenders at [email protected].

Beyond the game itself, United Bowl Week will bring a full slate of events to the city, including a youth football clinic and the UFL Awards Ceremony. It’s not just a championship—it’s a full celebration of what this league is building.

And if DC keeps playing like this, there’s a real chance the home crowd won’t just be hosting—it’ll be defending a title again.

What’s Next

The Defenders remain at home and continue their push forward, with momentum, confidence, and a city fully behind them.

One thing is clear—this is not the team you want to face if you’re trying to turn your season around.
