Motherhood and a fast-paced career shouldn’t be an “either/or” situation, but let’s be honest, trying to do both usually feels like a chaotic circus act, complete with clown makeup.
Diving Into the Duality of Motherhood
That’s the driving force behind “ANDMOM,” a brand-new video podcast from Vox Media and Wavelength. Hosted by WNBA All-Star Skylar Diggins and veteran sports broadcaster Cassidy Hubbarth, the show is ditching the perfect mom script in favor of some much-needed radical honesty.
Premiering May 14, ANDMOM isn’t just about diaper changes and sleep schedules. It’s a deep dive into the grit required to build a legacy while raising a family. Diggins and Hubbarth are pulling back the curtain on the stuff people usually only whisper about: fertility struggles, the physical toll of childbirth, workplace advocacy, and the identity crisis that often hits when you add “Mom” to your resume.
“After becoming a mom, I experienced some of the most challenging moments of my life—and I know I’m not alone in that,” says Diggins. “With ‘ANDMOM’, we’re building a space where women can speak openly about what they’re going through, support one another, and feel less pressure to hide parts of their story.”
For Hubbarth, the project is personal. She admitted to hiding her pregnancy for a while out of fear of how it might stall her career. “I want this show to push back on outdated expectations and support women navigating the real balance of career, identity and motherhood, while reminding them it’s okay to feel those fears and come out stronger on the other side.”
Navigating Careers and Personal Lives
The guest list for the first season is already stacked with heavy hitters who know a thing or two about performing under pressure, including Shawn Johnson, Lisa Leslie, Ally Love, and Brittney Griner. Dearica Hamby is also an upcoming guest, which should make for an interesting episode considering her professional struggles with the Las Vegas Aces during her pregnancy.
Whether you’re an elite athlete, a corporate leader, or just someone trying to survive a toddler’s tantrum before a Zoom call, “ANDMOM” promises to be the catharsis you’ve been looking for.
