Sharp Smart TV remote featuring CANAL+ button for direct streaming access

CANAL+ is expanding its footprint in the smart TV space through a new strategic partnership with Sharp Consumer Electronics, bringing its streaming platform directly into millions of homes across Europe. The collaboration will see the CANAL+ app pre-installed on Sharp Smart TVs powered by the TiVo operating system, alongside a dedicated remote-control button designed for instant access.

A Direct-to-Viewer Experience Built Into the TV

The partnership focuses on simplifying how viewers access content. Instead of requiring downloads or navigation through multiple menus, users will be able to launch CANAL+ instantly from the moment they power on their device.

The rollout will span all European markets where CANAL+ operates, including France, Poland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium, and Romania.

By embedding both the app and a dedicated button directly into the hardware experience, the move removes friction from the viewing process, positioning CANAL+ as a front-and-center option for consumers.

Strengthening CANAL+’s Streaming Position

For CANAL+, the deal is a clear play to deepen engagement across its subscriber base, which currently stands at over 18 million across Europe.

Philippe Schwerer, EVP of Industrial Partnerships & New Business at CANAL+, emphasized the strategic intent behind the integration:

“By pre-installing the CANAL+ App and integrating a dedicated button on the remote control, we are making it easier than ever for our subscribers to enjoy our exclusive content on Sharp’s high-quality screens.”

The platform’s content library includes premium sports, films, and original series, making accessibility a key competitive factor in a crowded streaming landscape.

Sharp and TiVo Push a Content-First Approach

For Sharp, the partnership aligns with its broader goal of enhancing the everyday user experience through integrated technology.

Witalis Korecki, CEO of Sharp Europe, framed the collaboration as a natural extension of that vision:

“This partnership will enable Sharp customers to access CANAL+’s world-class entertainment content easily and intuitively from the moment they turn on their TV.”

Meanwhile, TiVo’s platform continues to position itself around a content-first discovery model, aiming to reduce the time users spend searching and increase engagement with available programming.

The Bigger Picture

This partnership reflects a broader shift in the streaming ecosystem, where distribution is becoming just as important as content. By integrating directly into hardware, platforms like CANAL+ can secure a more prominent position in the user journey, competing not just on content quality but on accessibility and convenience.

For manufacturers like Sharp and platforms like TiVo, these types of partnerships add value to their devices by embedding premium services directly into the user experience.

What Comes Next

As smart TV platforms continue to evolve, expect more streaming services to pursue similar integrations, particularly in international markets where competition for subscriber attention is intensifying.

For CANAL+, this move could serve as a blueprint for expanding its reach even further, while reinforcing its presence in key European territories.
