STARZ has officially announced the premiere date for its upcoming original drama Fightland, with the new series set to debut Friday, July 31. Alongside the announcement, the network also released first-look images spotlighting the gritty world of underground boxing, organized crime, and fractured family loyalty at the center of the series.
Executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through G-Unit Film & Television, Fightland is positioned as a high-stakes crime drama rooted in London’s dangerous boxing underworld. The series follows disgraced former boxing champion Duke Kilroy, played by Howard Charles, as he returns home after serving eight years in prison to seek revenge against the criminal empire he believes destroyed his life.
According to STARZ, the story begins the night Duke becomes heavyweight champion before tragedy strikes when his brother Calvin is killed in a violent assault. The aftermath sends Duke into a downward spiral that ultimately lands him in a U.S. prison. After uncovering what he believes to be the truth behind the betrayal, Duke returns to London targeting former boxing promoter and crime boss Kingsley Marshall, portrayed by Nicholas Pinnock.
Complicating matters further is Joy Marshall, played by Deborah Ayorinde, who not only finds herself caught in the middle of the criminal fallout but also shares a complicated romantic history with Duke. As Duke infiltrates Kingsley’s operation from within, the series promises a volatile blend of revenge, family tension, power struggles, and brutal action both inside and outside the ring.
The ensemble cast also includes Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Charles Babalola, Tahirah Sharif, Tyler Conti, and Richard Pepple. Behind the scenes, Fightland is created by Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith, with Damione Macedon and Raphael Jackson Jr. serving as showrunners. Otto Bathurst directs and executive produces the first two episodes.
STARZ Continues Expanding Its Original Programming Slate
Fightland also represents an important step for STARZ as the network continues expanding its self-owned programming slate. The series is described as STARZ’s first wholly owned original series, joining a growing lineup that includes franchise properties like Power and Outlander alongside newer prestige dramas and acquisitions.
For 50 Cent, the project further expands his growing television empire with STARZ. After helping build the Power universe into one of the network’s signature franchises, Fightland gives G-Unit Film & Television another gritty crime-focused series with an international backdrop and a heavy emphasis on loyalty, ambition, and survival.
What Comes Next
Fightland premieres Friday, July 31 on the STARZ app and across all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms, with new episodes releasing weekly every Friday. As marketing ramps up in the coming months, expect additional footage, trailers, and deeper looks at the series’ brutal boxing world and layered family conflicts.
