The speculation is over.

After years of fan theories, post-credit teases, surprise appearances, and countless social media discussions, STARZ has officially greenlit Power: Legacy, a brand-new chapter in the ever-expanding Power Universe that reunites two of the franchise’s most iconic characters: Tommy Egan and Tariq St. Patrick.

The newly announced series will consist of eight episodes and star Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. as Tommy and Tariq, respectively, as their stories collide once again in New York City.

For longtime fans of the franchise, this is the crossover event they have been waiting years to see.

Tommy and Tariq Are Taking Over New York

According to STARZ, Power: Legacy follows Tommy Egan’s return to New York City, where he joins forces with Tariq St. Patrick to build a new empire.

While details surrounding the plot remain closely guarded, the concept alone represents a major shift for the franchise.

For years, Tommy and Tariq have existed on parallel paths. Tommy emerged from the original Power as one of television’s most beloved antiheroes before headlining Power Book IV: Force, while Tariq evolved from Ghost’s troubled son into the lead of Power Book II: Ghost.

Now, those paths are finally converging.

The announcement confirms what many fans suspected after several carefully placed breadcrumbs throughout recent entries in the franchise.

In the final season of Power Book II: Ghost, viewers who stayed through the credits were treated to a mysterious phone call hinting that Tariq’s story was far from over. Meanwhile, the series finale of Power Book IV: Force delivered a surprise appearance from Tariq, setting social media ablaze with theories that Tommy’s next chapter would take him back to New York.

Those theories have now become reality.

A Franchise Built on Legacy

Few television franchises have maintained cultural relevance as effectively as Power.

What began in 2014 as the story of James “Ghost” St. Patrick evolved into one of premium television’s most successful interconnected universes. More than a decade later, the franchise continues to generate passionate fan engagement while expanding into new stories and generations of characters.

Executive Producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson emphasized the significance of the reunion.

“Power never dies, and this chapter is our biggest yet. Fans have been waiting to see Tariq and Tommy together, and now they’re taking over New York City. Bringing Joseph and Michael back together is special. They’ve turned these characters into true icons of the Power universe.”

STARZ President of Original Programming Kathryn Busby echoed that excitement.

“Power doesn’t die, it evolves with its audience, and for over a decade the Power Universe has remained at the forefront of culture. We’re thrilled to reunite Joseph and Michael to deliver a new chapter that fuses the franchise’s iconic legacy with bold, boundary-pushing storytelling.”

The Return of New York

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Power: Legacy is its setting.

While Force successfully established Tommy’s story in Chicago and Ghost followed Tariq’s rise through New York’s criminal underworld and college life, Power: Legacy brings both characters back to the city where it all began.

New York has always been the heart of the Power Universe.

It’s where Ghost built his empire. It’s where Tommy became a legend. It’s where Tariq witnessed the rise and fall of his father. Bringing these two characters together in the city that shaped them both creates immediate narrative possibilities while also reconnecting the franchise to its roots.

For many fans, New York isn’t just a location in Power.

It’s a character.

Gary Lennon Returns as Showrunner

The series will be led by veteran Power creative Gary Lennon, who serves as showrunner and executive producer.

Lennon previously oversaw the critically acclaimed third season of Power Book IV: Force, which delivered record-setting growth for STARZ. According to the network, the season generated more than 9 million multiplatform viewers and helped push the franchise beyond 2 billion hours viewed globally.

Lennon will executive produce alongside franchise creator Courtney A. Kemp, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Mark Canton, Kendra Chapman Davis, Joseph Sikora, Chris Selak, and others.

Michael Rainey Jr. will also serve as a producer on the series.

Discussing the new project, Lennon teased the complicated relationship at the center of the story.

“It’s going to be electrifying to see if these two men can share the city, the game and the intoxicating drug known as POWER.”

That statement alone may reveal the biggest question facing the series.

Can Tommy and Tariq truly work together?

Or is another collision inevitable?

A New Business Strategy for STARZ

Beyond the storytelling implications, Power: Legacy also represents a significant business move for STARZ.

Unlike previous entries in the franchise, the new series will operate as a co-production between STARZ and Lionsgate Television. The agreement allows STARZ to participate more directly in ownership and future revenue opportunities tied to the franchise.

The move reflects the network’s larger strategy of investing in proprietary intellectual property while strengthening its long-term content portfolio.

For a franchise as successful as Power, the decision underscores just how valuable the universe has become for both STARZ and Lionsgate.

The Power Universe Continues to Expand

The announcement arrives as the Power franchise continues one of the busiest periods in its history.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan returns for its fifth and final season on June 12, while Power: Origins, focusing on the early lives of Ghost and Tommy, remains in production.

Now, Power: Legacy adds another major chapter to the growing universe.

More importantly, it delivers something fans have wanted for years: Tommy Egan and Tariq St. Patrick standing side by side.

Whether that partnership survives is another story entirely.
