Apple TV has released the official trailer for Cape Fear, the upcoming psychological horror thriller limited series starring Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, and Patrick Wilson. The highly anticipated adaptation premieres globally June 5, 2026 with its first two episodes, followed by weekly episodes every Friday through July 31.
Inspired by the 1991 Martin Scorsese-directed film and the original novel The Executioners, the new 10-episode series reimagines the terrifying story of Max Cady, a convicted killer seeking revenge after being released from prison. Javier Bardem steps into the iconic role opposite Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson as married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, whose lives spiral into fear once Cady reenters their world.

The trailer leans heavily into psychological tension and paranoia, teasing a slow-burning nightmare centered around obsession, manipulation, and the destruction of a seemingly stable family. Bardem’s presence immediately dominates the footage, while Adams appears positioned at the emotional center of the story as the Bowden family struggles to survive the escalating threat surrounding them.
Patrick Wilson joins the ensemble as Tom Bowden alongside Joe Anders, Lily Collias, and Malia Pyles, with supporting performances from CCH Pounder, Jamie Hector, and Anna Baryshnikov. The series is created, showrun, and executive produced by Nick Antosca, whose previous work includes The Act and Brand New Cherry Flavor.

Behind the scenes, the project carries major prestige pedigree. Academy Award winners Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg both serve as executive producers, continuing their long-running connection to the Cape Fear property following Scorsese’s acclaimed 1991 adaptation. Oscar nominee Morten Tyldum directs the pilot episode and also executive produces. <!– FIRST LOOK IMAGES HERE –>
A Modern Reimagining of a Psychological Horror Classic
While rooted in the legacy of both the 1962 and 1991 films, Apple’s Cape Fear appears to push deeper into serialized psychological horror territory. Expanding the story into a 10-episode format allows the series to fully explore the emotional breakdown, paranoia, and fear consuming the Bowden family as Max Cady systematically tears apart their lives.

The adaptation also continues Apple TV’s growing push into prestige thriller storytelling, pairing major talent both in front of and behind the camera with elevated genre material designed for weekly event viewing.
What Comes Next
Cape Fear premieres June 5, 2026 exclusively on Apple TV with two episodes at launch. New episodes will continue weekly through July 31. As the release date approaches, additional footage and character-focused previews are expected to further showcase the tension-filled atmosphere teased in the first trailer.
