Nicolas Cage Returns to a Fan-Favorite Marvel Character
Cage previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but Spider-Noir marks the first time he steps fully into the trench coat and fedora in live action.
The series follows Ben Reilly, a seasoned private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to confront his past life as the city’s only superhero after a deeply personal tragedy. The noir detective framing gives the project a distinctive identity separate from traditional superhero fare.
A Bold New Direction for Marvel TV
Rather than leaning on modern MCU spectacle, Spider-Noir embraces pulpy mystery, period drama, and shadow-heavy crime storytelling. The option to watch in black and white signals a serious commitment to classic noir aesthetics rather than using the style as a gimmick.
That decision could make Spider-Noir one of the most visually unique comic book adaptations in years.
Strong Supporting Cast Joins Cage
Alongside Cage, the cast includes:
Lamorne Morris
Li Jun Li
Abraham Popoola
Karen Rodriguez
Jack Huston
Brendan Gleeson
The guest cast also includes Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Michael Kostroff, Amanda Schull, Amy Aquino, and others.
Acclaimed Creative Team Behind the Camera
Spider-Noir is produced by Sony Pictures Television for MGM+ and Prime Video. Harry Bradbeer directs and executive produces the first two episodes.
Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot serve as co-showrunners, while Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal—key architects of the Spider-Verse franchise—also executive produce.
That creative lineup gives the project strong credibility both as prestige television and as an expansion of Sony’s Spider-Man universe.
Why This Matters
Comic book adaptations succeed when they embrace genre rather than copy each other. Spider-Noir appears to understand that. Instead of another conventional superhero story, this series blends detective fiction, old Hollywood atmosphere, tragedy, and Marvel mythology.
It also gives Nicolas Cage a role that feels tailor-made for his charisma and unpredictability.
