Joanna Scanlan Interview | Riot Women
Joanna Scanlan discusses portraying Beth, a former teacher rediscovering her voice through music, friendship, and rebellion in Riot Women. The conversation dives into the series’ powerful themes of menopause, identity, and the importance of checking in on the “strong friends” who often carry more than they show.
Scanlan also reflects on the deep emotional connection between Beth and Kitty, working alongside Rosalie Craig, and learning to play instruments like keyboard and piano as part of the band’s raw, punk-driven energy. Riot Women is a fierce, funny, and heartfelt exploration of women reclaiming power at a stage of life rarely centered on screen.
Synopsis:
Five menopausal women form a punk rock band to enter a local talent contest — and discover they have far more to shout about than they ever imagined. As bonds deepen, Beth and Kitty uncover a surprising and heartbreaking connection that reshapes their lives.
Riot Women will debut on BritBox on Wednesday, January 14, with the first two episodes premiering on launch day. New episodes will release weekly through February 11.
The season consists of 6 episodes, each running approximately 60 minutes.
