Ring of Honor is saddened to learn that longtime Maryland independent wrestling star and respected pro wrestling trainer R.J. Meyer has died after a battle with leukemia. He was 44.

Meyer, who performed in the ring as Bruiser, was a top star for Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW), one of the leading independent promotions in pro wrestling, for nearly 20 years. He also was the head trainer at the MCW Pro Wrestling Training Center (which is an affiliate of ROH), and worked behind the scenes at Future of Honor shows.

Some of the wrestlers he trained include: 2016 Top Prospect Tournament winner Lio Rush, Patrick Clark (aka Velveteen Dream), The Soldiers of Savagery (Moses and Kaun), and Future of Honor’s Dante Caballero, Joe Keys and Gia Scott. Meyer also had a hand in training Lita and Mickie James.

ROH extends its deepest condolences to Meyer’s family, friends and fans.
