Here’s a preview of this weekend’s episode of “Ring of Honor Wrestling:”
Brody King vs. Dalton Castle
King and Castle both feel they have something to prove in this first-time matchup.
King, who has only had two singles matches in ROH since his debut nearly two years ago, wants to show that he can make it on his own. The former ROH World Tag Team and World Six-Man Tag Team champion has set his sights on the ROH World Title, currently held by RUSH.
Castle, who saw his 197-day reign as ROH World Champion in 2018 come to an end due in large part to a back injury, is determined to return to the level he was at before he got hurt.
The winner of this match undoubtedly will strengthen their case for a shot at the ROH World Championship.
King said he wants Castle to be at his absolute best when they square off.
“Dalton, if you’re going to face me, give me everything you got,” King said. “I want the Dalton Castle that became world champion, not the Dalton Castle that came back from it.”
Castle, who lost a hard-fought decision to two-time former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal in the first round of the ROH Pure Title Tournament, said he wants to prove that he’s more dangerous than he’s given credit for.
“My job is to find out where I went wrong [against Lethal] and correct the mistake,” Castle said. “This match with Brody is an opportunity to do that in a big way. The man is a beast. So is beating Brody impossible? No way. I just have to plan correctly.”
Pure Rules Match: Dak Draper vs. Brian Johnson
Draper and Johnson were chosen as alternates for the ROH Pure Title tournament, but neither of them got an opportunity to compete.
This match allows them to showcase their skills as pure wrestlers and potentially puts the winner in line for a shot at ROH Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham.
Draper and Johnson have never wrestled each other, but they both were in the 2019 Top Prospect Tournament. Draper won the tournament, while Johnson was eliminated in the first round.
At 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Draper has a distinct size advantage over Johnson (6-foot, 200 pounds), but Johnson has honed his skills over the past year under the tutelage of international star PJ Black.
