June Wrestler Of The Month: Bandido

Bandido entered June coming off a deflating loss to his former friend Demonic Flamita, but he turned things around in a major way.

The sensational luchador won the prestigious Survival of the Fittest tournament to earn a shot at the ROH World Title, which he will receive when he faces RUSH in the main event at the Best in the World pay-per-view on Sunday in Baltimore.

Bandido defeated Bateman, who has an eight-inch height advantage and is one of the hardest-hitting and sadistic wrestlers in ROH, in a qualifying match to advance to the six-way elimination final.

Bandido scored the first elimination of the match — and also gained a measure of revenge — by pinning Demonic Flamita. However, an enraged Demonic Flamita brutally attacked Bandido, who had to wrestle the rest of the match with an injured arm and shoulder.

Despite fighting with just one arm, Bandido pinned Chris Dickinson and then forced Eli Isom to submit to win the match. Talk about a hard-earned victory.

Past Survival of the Fittest winners include Bryan Danielson, Roderick Strong, Tyler Black, Eddie Edwards, Michael Elgin, Jay Lethal and Adam Cole — all of whom went on to win, or had already won, the ROH World Championship.

Will Bandido join that illustrious group? We’ll find out Sunday night.
