ROH TV Preview: Briscoes Square Off In Fight On The Farm; Jonathan Gresham Defends Pure Title Against Fred Yehi

Here’s a preview of this weekend’s episode of “Ring of Honor Wrestling:”

Fight on the Farm: Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe

The Briscoes are the greatest tag team in ROH history, but whether the brothers ever team together again could very well hinge on what happens when they fight each other on the family farm in Sandy Fork, Del.

Jay and Mark Briscoe have been unable to resolve the issues between them that began toward the end of last year, so Papa Briscoe said his sons need to go back to their roots and fight it out to be able to resume being the baddest tag team on the planet.

Jay and Mark aren’t as confident as their father is about their partnership being salvageable. Both brothers are determined to inflict severe damage on the other when they have their showdown on the farm.

“You remember that time I threw your ass off the chicken house? Hey, maybe I’ll do it again,” Mark said. “You remember that time I busted your head open when I ran it into the tractor? Maybe I’ll do it again. You remember that time I jumped off the carport and smashed you? Maybe I’ll do it again. How about I do it again? You want me to do it again? I’ll do it again!”

There was hope that Jay and Mark could get back on the same page after facing each other on the 500th episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling in April, but that match — which Mark won by countout — only exacerbated the situation.

“That 500th episode, that didn’t mean nothing,” Jay said. “Chicken, I let you get that win, boy. You’re lucky I let you get that. Now you’re about to get knocked out. I’m gonna whoop your ass. I’m gonna knock you out just like I have been doing our whole lives and just like I will do for the rest of our lives.”

Have we seen the end of the 11-time ROH World Tag Team Champions? Will they destroy each other on the farm? Or will they finally settle their differences and reunite?

Only one thing about the Fight on the Farm is certain: It’s going to be a violent spectacle.

ROH Pure Title Match: Champion Jonathan Gresham vs. Fred Yehi

Yehi has been on a roll the past three months, beginning with his victory in the first Pure Gauntlet Match. “The Savageweight” followed that with impressive wins over Rocky Romero and World Famous CB to become the No. 1 contender in the Pure division rankings.

Yehi’s rise should come as no surprise, as he immediately proved that he belonged in ROH when he knocked off two-time former ROH World Television Champion Silas Young in the first round of the Pure Title Tournament last year.

Now Yehi is looking to score the biggest victory of his career by defeating The Foundation’s Gresham, who is 9-0 in Pure Rules matches.

Yehi and Gresham know each other well. They were both mentored by former ROH competitor Jay Fury, and they have faced each other several times in singles and tag matches going back to 2014.

“I know you even better than your best friend Jay Lethal, and this is how it’s gonna go,” Yehi said. “I’m gonna shake your hand before the match and I’ll shake your hand after the match. However, in between, ‘The Savageweight’ Fred Yehi will take the Ring of Honor Pure Championship.”

Gresham said he was excited when he learned Yehi was coming to ROH, but he was disappointed Yehi questioned the integrity of the Pure division after losing a Pure Rules Match to Dak Draper thanks to Draper using a punch to the face.

“When it’s time for us to wrestle, I want you to leave all that bitching and complaining on the apron,” Gresham said. “Because you know very well that you’re not going to have to worry about me punching you in the face. You know that I’m not going to be cheating in that ring. Fred, the only thing you’re going to have to worry about is me being the better man, just like all those times before. You’re going to have to worry about me being the best pure professional wrestler in the world.

“So when I beat you and I leave with the most prestigious championship in this company today, the Pure Wrestling Championship, and I return with my stablemates to fight this war to restore honor, that’s going to leave you two options: One, you can join us; or two, you can shut up and get out of our way.”

The winner of this match will defend the title against Mike Bennett at the Best in the World pay-per-view on July 11 in Baltimore.
