There are some surprises the WWE keeps close to their chest when it comes to this time of year, and it usually involves a select group of top stars. Ronda Rousey is one of them.
After completely surprising everyone with Rousey’s debut in 2018, many believe that although signs continue to show Rousey won’t be at tonight’s show, it’s a work to surprise fans tonight. While it could be the plan for her to be there to set up something for this year’s WrestleMania, on Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer said he was “kinda told” Rousey wouldn’t be working this year’s WrestleMania. In his eyes, a return for WrestleMania 38 in Dallas or 39 in Los Angeles might be better plans, but her contract could be at play in either of those situations.
“I was kinda told that she’s not doing [The Royal Rumble] this year. If it was in Los Angeles I think she would have done it for almost he same reason, but it’s not now. You could do it, but it does make more sense for her to be in Dallas for next year’s WrestleMania or Los Angeles the year after because this year it’ll still be a scaled down event.”
WWE still needs to fill two nights worth of shows with marquee matches and anything Rousey does would easily be considered a marquee match. However, with no confirmation Rousey will even be working this year’s event, we may have to pass on assuming we will see Rousey tonight at the Royal Rumble.
