For one unforgettable night, New York City’s historic Beacon Theatre belonged to Lestat de Lioncourt.

AMC’s The Vampire Lestat: One Night Only LIVE wasn’t simply a premiere event. It wasn’t merely an advance screening. It wasn’t even just a concert. Instead, it was a celebration of Anne Rice’s enduring legacy, a reward for one of television’s most passionate fandoms, and an ambitious introduction to what may be the boldest chapter yet in the Immortal Universe.

Held on June 2, the sold-out event brought together fans, cast members, and creatives for an exclusive first look at The Vampire Lestat, the next evolution of the franchise that began with Interview with the Vampire. While technically continuing the story audiences have followed for two seasons, the series makes a dramatic shift in perspective, placing Lestat at the center of the narrative and embracing the rock-and-roll mythology that made Anne Rice’s second novel such a fan favorite.

Before the evening even began, the excitement surrounding the event was impossible to ignore.

Fans lined the streets outside the Beacon Theatre hours before the doors opened. Many arrived dressed in elaborate gothic fashion, vampire-inspired looks, and outfits that felt perfectly suited for a night dedicated to the world’s first immortal rock star. The event sold out completely, yet that didn’t stop additional fans from gathering outside in hopes of finding a way into the building.

Once inside, every seat was filled. Conversations echoed throughout the venue as fans discussed their favorite moments from previous seasons, debated theories about the future of the story, and eagerly anticipated their first glimpse at The Vampire Lestat.

The excitement only intensified when the cast and creative team entered the theater.

Among those in attendance were Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, Jennifer Ehle, Delainey Hayles, Sheila Atim, Noah Reid, composer Daniel Hart, creator and showrunner Rolin Jones, executive producer Mark Johnson, executive producer Hannah Moscovitch, and several other members of the production team. Each arrival was met with thunderous applause, reflecting the deep connection fans have developed with the performers who have brought Anne Rice’s beloved characters to life.

A New Era Begins With “Detroit”

The evening began with an advance screening of Episode 101, titled “Detroit,” five days before its official premiere on AMC and AMC+.

The audience reaction was immediate.

As the opening sequence played, fans cheered, applauded, and sang along. Familiar faces such as Louis and Armand received enthusiastic welcomes from the crowd, but there was no question who everyone had come to see.

The moment Lestat appeared, the Beacon Theatre erupted.

Yet what stood out most wasn’t the applause. It was the silence that followed. Whenever Lestat spoke, the audience became completely still, hanging on every word and every expression.

The premiere episode wastes little time establishing its new identity. This is no longer merely the story of how others view Lestat. This is Lestat’s story.

The premiere perfectly sets up this larger scope, anchoring the narrative around Lestat as he embarks on an electric multi-city tour while being haunted by muses from his rebellious past. As his band’s popularity continues to grow, so does Lestat’s influence over both vampires and humans, forcing others to confront his expanding power during a dangerous period known as the Great Conversion, an unnatural surge in the vampire population.

The premiere successfully establishes that larger scope while maintaining the emotional complexity that has defined the franchise from the beginning. Through Lestat’s perspective, viewers experience a world where celebrity, immortality, obsession, and performance collide in increasingly unpredictable ways.

Without venturing into spoiler territory, the episode left fans shocked, energized, and eager for more. Several moments generated audible reactions from the audience, particularly the introduction of a legendary character from Anne Rice’s novels—eliciting a collective, breathless gasp from the book-purists in the crowd who have waited years to see them adapted.

By the time the credits rolled, the crowd responded with sustained applause, fully embracing the beginning of this new chapter.

When The Vampire Lestat Took the Stage

If the screening introduced audiences to the world of The Vampire Lestat, the concert brought that world to life.

Following the episode, the Beacon Theatre transformed from screening room to rock venue as the band prepared to take the stage. What followed was not a brief promotional performance but a full concert experience lasting approximately 45 minutes and featuring six songs.

Before the performance even began, attendees received an unexpected surprise when composer Daniel Hart joined the musicians on guitar. Hart’s contributions have become an essential part of the franchise’s identity, and seeing him perform live added another layer of authenticity to the evening.

Then came the opening notes of “Long Face.”

The crowd instantly recognized the song.

As the lights brightened and Sam Reid emerged as Lestat, the theater exploded with excitement. The response was deafening, yet Reid never appeared overwhelmed by the moment. Instead, he embraced it completely.

The setlist featured:

  • “Long Face”
  • “All Fall Down”
  • “Dancing with Myself” (Billy Idol cover)
  • “Butterscotch Bitch”
  • “Come to Me”
  • An additional unreleased track

Across the performance, Reid demonstrated exactly why AMC built an entire event around Lestat’s musical persona. He didn’t feel like an actor portraying a rock star. He felt like a rock star who happened to be an immortal vampire. Reid’s sultry, gothic take on Billy Idol’s ‘Dancing with Myself‘ completely reinvented the 80s punk classic.

Fans sang along, danced in their seats, and fully immersed themselves in the experience. During Butterscotch Bitch, the crowd collectively turned their heads toward the VIP section to catch the reaction of Jacob Anderson, who was grinning and enjoying the track just as much as the fans—a meta-moment that sent the theatre’s energy through the roof.

Those moments reinforced what made the event feel special. The cast, creatives, and audience weren’t separated into different groups. Everyone was experiencing the same celebration together.

Sam Reid Fully Becomes Lestat

Throughout the evening, one thing became abundantly clear.

There is absolutely no doubt that Sam Reid is Lestat.

Whether on screen or on stage, Reid commands attention in a way that feels effortless. He captures the character’s confidence, arrogance, vulnerability, humor, and unpredictability while still making him deeply compelling.

The concert wasn’t simply an extension of the show. It felt like proof of concept for the entire series.

If The Vampire Lestat asks viewers to believe that Lestat can become a global rock phenomenon, Reid’s performance makes that premise completely believable.

Showrunner Rolin Jones echoed that sentiment during the event, praising both Reid and composer Daniel Hart for carrying the immense creative responsibility of this new era. Jones even revealed that Hart has already written music for a potential fourth season, suggesting that the musical ambitions of the franchise may only be getting started.

One Night Only, But a Lasting Impression

As the final song concluded, Reid introduced his bandmates, took a final bow, and disappeared backstage.

The audience wasn’t ready to leave.

Fans remained standing, cheering and applauding long after the performance ended. Many were already discussing favorite moments from the episode, favorite songs from the concert, and what they hoped to see as the season unfolds.

That reaction may be the clearest measure of the event’s success.

AMC could have hosted a traditional premiere and generated plenty of excitement. Instead, they created an immersive experience that celebrated both the series and the fandom that helped build it into one of television’s most passionate communities.

For one night, the Beacon Theatre became a cathedral devoted to Anne Rice’s immortal rock star. And judging by the reaction of everyone in attendance, the faithful are more than ready to follow Lestat into this bold new era.
