ROH TV Preview: Kenny King, Shane Taylor Collide; Briscoes Face Upstarts SOS

Here’s a preview of this weekend’s episode of “Ring of Honor Wrestling:”

Kenny King vs. Shane Taylor

After Taylor suffered a hard-fought loss to King nearly three years, King immediately consoled him and offered words of encouragement.

“I sat on the edge of the ring distraught because I had given it my all, at least what I had at the time,” Taylor recalled. “And he brought me in for a hug and told me, ‘You don’t know how good you’re going to be yet.’”

King’s words to Taylor proved prescient. A little over a year later, Taylor won the ROH World Television Title and successfully defended it for seven months.

Now Taylor has an opportunity to show King firsthand just how good he has become.

“My legacy is dependent upon me beating Kenny King,” Taylor said. “I have to get past him.”

King and Taylor’s history together goes back to 2017 when King, Rhett Titus and Caprice Coleman welcomed Taylor into The Rebellion, a short-lived faction.

“I definitely see Kenny King as a huge influence, not only in my career in Ring of Honor, but in who I am as a person,” Taylor said.

King said when he faces Taylor he’ll prove he’s still the better man.

“Shane understands what this is. I understand what this is,” King said. “I know it’s not personal. I know this is just business. But this is not a passing of the torch. This is not a situation where I’m ready to give up my spot. I’m still here. I’m going to be shutting your ass down just like I did last time.”

Jay and Mark Briscoe vs. Soldiers of Savagery (Moses and Kaun)

Two weeks ago, Moses and Kaun showed why Taylor made them his first two signings after he created Shane Taylor Promotions. SOS and Taylor defeated the Briscoes and EC3 in a six-man tag match, spoiling EC3’s much-anticipated ROH in-ring debut.

On this weekend’s show, SOS has a chance to build on that momentum in what is by far their biggest challenge to date, as they take on the 11-time former ROH World Tag Team Champions in a traditional tag match.

A victory over the Briscoes undoubtedly would vault SOS to the top of the ankings and solidify their status as two of the hottest prospects in the sport.

“It’s about time we send Dem Boys back to Sandy Fork, Delaware and put them out of their misery.” Kaun said.

Of course, scoring a victory over one of the greatest tag teams of all time — who are still at the top of their game — is much easier said than done.

“The Soldiers of Savagery. Well let me tell y’all boys something. Y’all looking at the original savages,” Jay Briscoe said.
